I have an AMD63 kit that I want to build as an AK47. The forend is the only issue (I think)- what do I need to change? I know I need the AK furniture, but I think I need to change the gas tube also. How difficult is that?. Also - If I do a screw-build, I can have a folder and a fixed stock set-up - correct? Finally - I want to sell the original AMD furniture - what's it worth? Thanks |

2. What do you mean by folder and fixed stock setup? 3. I would value the furniture at $15-$20 4. Im assuming you already know this but you will need a barrel extension and the correct U.S. parts. Sorry is misread it A 63 shoud be a piece of cake to put regular furniture on. Im curious about the value of the furniture as well since I have plans to do the same thing.

For an AMD-63, the only thing you need to change is the gas tube and pick up a set of standard handguards. The lower handguard will need to be fitted to the handguard retainer with a little sanding, but that takes about 5 minutes. A standard AK gas tube will fit the AMD-63 without modification. You may need to file the receiver end of the gas tube to properly fit the Rear Sight Block. You may want to change over to a standard AK pistol grip for the authentic AK appearance. The AMD-63 was fitted with blonde furniture, so you may want to refinish the stock or handguards to match depending on your color scheme... I like the stock and pistol grip the way they are. The AMD-63 came with a fixed buttstock like a standard AK, it doesn't fold. If you strip and refinish the AMD-63 furniture, you can easily match the parts and don't have to worry about selling them. For an AMD-65, you can fit a standard set of handguards. You will need to purchase and shorten a standard gas tube to fit the AMD-65 length. You will need to fit the lower handguard to the retainer with a little sanding. You will need a permanently attached barrel extension or extended brake to meet the 16+" barrel length requirement. I would pick either fixed or folding buttstock and leave it. If you install a standard AK-47 stock tang for the fixed stock, you can install a Romanian side-folder or a standard buttstock and change them whenever the mood strikes you. |

He said AMD63, not 65....The 63 has a full length barrel and is easily changed to look "normal" I have done 3 of them. You will need a gas tube that will accept a handguard, these are available in many price ranges from KVAR to Northridge. Look around to see what you consider the best buy. I have bought both. The hand guard retainer either needs to be modified or the lower handguard because of the little stud that sticks out. I modified my handguard. Here's a pic of one of my 63's fitted with Polish wood. AMD63 I started this post and then got on the phone... |

The folding stock rifle thats in the picture has a Russian side folding polymer stock on it. The only place that sells the complete set up is Tantal the last I heard he was still waiting on getting them in. The installation of the folder requires receiver modifications like this So, it's pretty intense, 'simple' it's not. An alternate source for the folder would be to buy the Russian folder from KVAR and the polymer stock from Rusmilitary The AK with the black furniture is a Saiga 223 rifle I converted to a AK101 PIC |

Kevin - Thanks again - great gallery I'll go with the AK-74/100 folder, it's worth the wait and the mods look like fun to do. thedukeryan - I guess the value depends on if you're selling or buying (like everything else). I've seen people offering $80 for a complete set, and just the grips sell for $20, but there were many responses to the WTB posts. |
