I'm trying to order a Krink FSB today, and I forgot to put a caliper on the barrel.  Can anyone tell me what the AMD barrel diameter is, under the fsb/gb?

I want this FSB  but, I hate to pay as much for it as I've got in the parts kit.

The price on this link is a little better, but is the diameter ok?  Also, I'm not sure about the style looking right...

Any suggestions ?

I have that exact combo block.  The I.D. measures right around 0.592".

The O.D. of my AMD-65 barrel at the gas block journal measures 0.599".  The combo block is a slip fit over the gas block journal.  The only way I would trust fitting this block would be too silver-solder it in place and then pin it.

Additionally, the combo block is a 90 degree gas port.  If you line the gas port of the block up with the port in the barrel, the AMD-65 gas piston and tube will be too short.  You could easily trim a standard gas tube to the right length, but a standard AK gas piston would be too long.  You could have HotBarrel manufacture a custom gas piston for this combination.  Check his posts on Gunco.net for info.

This setup would require a custom gas piston, a standard gas tube, and the combo block.  Total cost would be a little over $100 for parts.

I'll take some pics of this gas block on a stripped AMD-65 barrel when I get home from work.

Here's another option for an even CHEAPER gas block/sight combination:

This one would require a little more work to make the sleeves for the barrel and gas piston, but would be different than all those other AMD-65s.  Total cost would be about $15 for the parts.

Hmm...  Sound interesting... I may just leave it for now, and slowly gather the parts and develop a game plan.  I'm tinkering with ways to shorten my barrel length on this pistol project.  I've been monitoring some of the stuff on Gunco, somehow I missed that one.  Please keep me posted.

Here is the Bulgarian combo block on the AMD-65 barrel.

This pic shows the location of the gas port in relation to the muzzle.  The AMD-65 gas tube and carrier are installed to show the actual position of the parts.

The longer gas tube is an AMD-63 piece.  It is shown for comparison to the 65 parts.

This pic shows the Bulgarian combo block slid onto the AMD-65 barrel.  The block slides easily onto the gas block journal, and will fall to either side with little resistance.  To safely attach the block, I would silver-solder the block in place and then install the pins.

The gas block has been positioned to align the gas ports of the block and barrel.  The AMD-65 piston is too short to fit the gas block properly.

A standard gas tube could be shortened approximately 1/2" to 5/8" for the proper length.  The end of the tube can be flared as with AMD-65 upper handguard conversions.  A gas piston approximately 1/2" to 5/8" shorter than a standard 7.62 piston would be required.  There are a few individuals making custom gas pistons.  The pistons are stainless steel and count as a U.S. made part.  I recommend HotBarrel for this particular item.  His pistons are great quality and inexpensive.

Either size of flash hider could be used, 24mm or 14mm.  If a Krink "cone" flash hider is used, make sure that it is NOT the 5.45 version.  A 7.62 projectile would wreak havoc trying to pass through the 5.45 cone!  I am assuming that the build would be for a pistol.  If a rifle is to be built, the barrel must be extended to 16"+.  If you're building a SBR, just be careful about the muzzle device sizing.

If the pistol is to be shortened, be aware of the size and location of the original gas port.  You would want to shorten the barrel enough to remove the original port.

What Rhino said, and also you don't want a 90-degree gas block with a 45-degree gas port.

also here's another thought for you - takes only a MAPP torch...
