Well, considering the other receiver options currently out there, OOW and the Global receivers are probably you best bet. If you get a OOW, you might consider having it fully heat treated by someone like Chris Butler at AKUSA. OOW receivers come only with the holes heat treated. Chris Butler charges about $35 for a full heat treatment if I remember correctly.

I had heard that the OOWs are fully heat treated now and that if they are fully treated again will warp.

Is this something new? When did they start heat treating the whole receiver?

Tapeo1, I saw this posted the other day but for the life of me, I can't remember where at the moment.  It might have been at the FAL Files.

I have two that are 6months old and only the holes and ejecter are heat treated.  Can I expect some trouble down the road because the whole receiver isnt treated, both are OOW.  thanks Joe   edit  I looked at mine, only ones assembled, and it has alot of rounds through it, and no visible wear except to the finish.

You can have yours heat treated by Chris at AKUSA for $35 each if you want the piece of mind.  Some people say that it is not necessary though.  There are a bit of complaints surfacing that some of the Global receivers are not properly heat treated.

I haven't read that OOW is heat treating the whole receivers, but what I did read was that their latest production run was waiting on being heat treated. That was several weeks ago and I think their run is ready or about ready to go.
I don't think there is any reason to have the thicker (1.2mm) OOW's entirely heat treated, the "factory" military guns are thinner metal(1mm). I would think that they are more than 20% stronger.
I have built seven guns using OOW's and there has been no wear on any of the ejectors, pivot pins or anything. I have shot a thousand or better thru one gun and it shows no wear  to speak of.

i placed an order in early January for an OOW receiver and was told it was on backorder for heat treatment and that i should expect shipment in mid February.  well i got mine about a week ago so they must have got a shipment in from the heat treatment.  also mine is only heat treated around the holes...not the hole thing.

i agree with most that you dont need to heat treat the whole thing, it will be just as good.
