I have a Saiga 7.62 that I need to press the barrel out of.  I have a press kit from xebec and a 20 ton press.  To make a long story short the pin will not budge and I've put enough pressure on it that if I apply anymore it will damage something.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  My last pin on my 74 kit came out with ease but this one is a real bitch.  Thanks for any help.

My Polish underfolder had a tight barrel pin.  I soaked it with kroil, and let it sit over night.  Then I heated the trunion, and the barrel pin popped right out without too much resistance.

That Kroil really works huh?  What did you use to heat the trunnion?  I have a heat gun but no torch.  Thanks for the quick response.

yep
do you have or know someone with a big vice ?
put it in a large vice and turn it down till you cant turn anymore
then take a bfh and smack the jaw of the vice
the impact will brake it loose
after it pops just put it back in the press and push it out

I used a propane torch.  I didn't heat it too long, just enough that I thought it should make the trunion expand a bit.

if you heat it and put oil on the other side it will also suck the oil threw
no clue why so dont ask i just know it will

If you have to drill it out. Ive done several this way that were to tight to press out.  After drilling a hole through center can either beat out or drill completely out. Just depends on how tight they are in there. Ive probably pressed out a 12 or so pins from kits and my press plate from Xebec is startingto  sow a lot of wear thus making it harder to press the barrel pins out.

I noticed that on my AMD65.  I put some 3in1 oil on it and heated it lightly through the hole between the RSB and trunnion.  The oil just sucked right in.  When I put it in my big vise it was already cooled and made that pop sound 3 times while turning it down.  Only thing I can figure is the heat breaks the 'weld' the parkerizing puts on those pins.

It is called capillary action.  The same principle is involved when soldering copper pipe.  You heat the pipe at the joint and when the solder melts it is drawn into the gap between the pipe and the joint.  Thanks for the barrel pin info.  I have a few barrels to press out using xebec's kit.  BTW, Kroil rocks!

Okay, so where would you recommend going to find Kroil?  I tried Walmart lastnight but they didn't have it.  I have access to Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Kroil
Kroil

I have never had a pin I couldn't press out, sometimes it seems like they are very stubborn and then the big pop happens.  I would probably try some locally available  3in1 or  that pink stuff that smells sweet (I forgot what it's called ) or even some ATF  (no not the feds)

Kevin, did you have to press the barrel out of your Saiga AK-101 build?  Also, what press kit are you using?  Xebec's?  The pin in my Saiga is so tight that it actually mushroomed the tip of the pressing pin Xebec includes with his kits.

I went and bought some penetrating oil today and a propane torch.  It's not Kroil, because I couldn't find it, but hopefully it works just the same.  It's called Liquid Wrench.

I did press it out and it went like a charm. Damn, if it's mushrooming the pin on Xebec's kit the it has got to be stubborn (I did use that on the Saiga, but it was my first out of 6 builds I used it on)
Liquid wrench is good stuff, I forgot about that, I have used it many times when I was wrenching on cars.
If that doesn't work, you may take a few good whacks at it with a BFH and a punch, just don't use some dinky ass hammer.  Just to "jar" it then try pressing again.
Did you try pressing from the other side?  It may be worth a shot.
Good luck. Sounds like you may need it on this one.

I will try the Liquid Wrench and if that doesn't work I will just drill it out.  I don't see the risk in applying more pressure than I think is necessary only to damage the rest of the rifle.  I can get a new barrel pin for a lot less money than I can get a new Saiga rifle.

Update:
The pin is out thanks to the liquid wrench, propane torch and Kevin's suggestion to push it from the other side.  The SOB probably popped 6 to 8 times but it came out.  Now on to pressing the barrel out.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.
