How do you install a mag latch spring on a trigger guard that is attached to the reciever? Took off the mag latch and spring from my AMD65 and trying to put it on the Vulcan reciever with trigger guard attached. Anyone know of a trick, this thing is driving my nuts. The bread bag tie will work on the spring if the trigger guard is not attached, but attached I can't do any good. Should have taken the TG off the Vucan and installed the AMD65 TG but did not want to lose one on my US parts.

Your help would be greatly appreicated. Thanks

The trigger guard won't count as a US part, and I have never seen a US produced TG ?

But to address your question, I have never messed with the mag catch lever/spring because the rivet or pin pressing would be difficult to reproduce correctly. If the 'new' one is drilled then it 'should' be just pushing the tension on the spring and sliding the pin in then smashing the pin retainer lips in it,,,'should'
If it's not drilled then you have to worry about the dimensions to get the spacing right, good luck with that one.

Thanks Kevin for the reply. I will wrestle with it today. Never got into anything like this on any AK. About the trigger guard being US made and counting as a part for the total count this is what Joe at JoeKen told me.

"The trigger guard on these receivers are US made and count as the trigger housing in the 20 parts list."

That was his own words. They told me the receiver, rear tang and trigger guard all counted as 3 US parts.

Well, what Joeken told you was BS.  The trigger guard is not a trigger housing - AKs don't have a 'trigger housing' - its the same part as the receiver (essentially).  Take a look at a FAL - those have trigger housings.

Replacing the mag release is a royal pain in the ass!  It took me about 6 hours to do mine.  I ended up using a piece of plastic tubing slightly smaller than the pin as a guide.  I put everything in place with the plast tube holding it together, then pushed it out with the real pin.

I probably invented a couple of new words that night, but I finally got it done.  I'm not real happy in that I had less pin exposed on one side when I peened it, but it was for a dummy gun.  It functions fine, looks fine and will seldom be used.
