| I am not new to guns, but new to building them. I found some AK47 kits online and some sweet variants. I was planning on getting a kit and buy the receiver locally. I have a friend that is a gunner's mate in the coast gaurd and he will be guiding me on the build, I just wanted to do the research on my own. Do you have any advice on sites, laws, rules of thumb, shooting/maintaining, ect. Thanks for the help. |

By all means Top, make sure you berate the guy instead of answering his questions. Nothing turns a newbie on like star treatment. From my own experience, I want to build an AK. I searched the AK47 site and came up with nothing useful. A bunch of dead links and threads with dead pictures. Unlike the AR15 side of the site, the AK47 side is lacking in info. For example, the AR15 side has step by step how to instructions for uppers, lowers, FSB, free float tubes, etc. Nothing like that on the AK side. I can't even get a question answered when asked. I even asked about saiga converts and only found a good site on my own through google search. Try helping a new guy instead of telling him to search for info that's not there or is so hard to find it may as well not be. |
Hey DieYoung, I'm in VA also and would be more than happy to help you out. You need to be a bit more specific with your request though, you're covering a lot of ground there. Personally, I think rivet builds are the simplest ONCE you get the right equipment. Screw builds are by far cheaper, though. Get a nice kit for your first rifle . . . I recommend the Bulgarian AK-74's from K-Var. First quality kit. Are you friends with Etek? He's a Coastie out of Maryland that I met at the Central Va BuildFest . . . _Disconnector_ |
| Or use my technique, and ask a new question every day or twice a day. I think I asked every question at least twice, just stated differently before I did anything with my build. I am still not finished but it is goign together smoothly and I had only had one problem, and it was more of a set back than anything. |
