I've read the tutorial in the Romanian AK page, but can't get the rear of the gas tube to budge, to allow me to install the wooden upper handguard-any ideas or easier ways of doing it? The tutorial basically says the rear part of the metal tube should twist 180 degrees, using a wrench on the flat portions-mine feels like it's welded- Thanks for any ideas... |

I remove my stubborn handguards by holding the flats of the gas tube in the bench vise. Then you can use both hands to get a grip on the guard. Sometimes a shot of lube on the spring clip that fits around the tube is needed. Let it soak overnight and have at it in the morning. Don't soak the wood down with the lube, just a drop or 2 of oil is all that is needed. That metal clip can be a PITA sometimes! You could also try a plastic hammer and tap on one edge of the guard. Work along the whole length and don't try to bash it off the tube in one swing. |
