I am having real problems with a Type III russian kit. I can't seem to budge the pin that holds the rear sight base in place. I have bent one punch on it already. The Type III has a threaded barrel, so I have to be able to slide the base forward to unscrew the barrel from the receiver stub. I have kept it slathered in Kroil for a couple of days. Any ideas before I attemp to drill the pin ? That pin is real hard steel, and drilling it out ain't going to be fun,

You might try heating the sight base up to about 250-350 degrees with a propane tank then give it a good wack. Also use the shortest punch you can. Do you have access to either a hydraulic or arbor press? If so then make a punch out of something like a grade 8 bolt then get it started with the press.
If that doesnt work you can go the extreame route and drill it out and make a new pin.

Chuck1 - I have a 3-ton arbor press, I'll give it and the heat a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
