How deep can you drill into the front trunnion (rivits) with out hitting the barrel?  If the barrel is in the front trunnion do you still have to head space?  Where can you get head spacing gauges and how do they work?   Thanks.

I just drill through the soft rivet and stop when I hit the barrel.  The AMD kits I have are matching# so I have not checked headspace.  Brownells, Grafs, Midway and many others have gauges.

I wouldn't rely on matching number kits not needing to be checked.
I built a all matching numbers kit from centerfire, that swallowed a my no-go gage like it was closing on a empty chamber.
ALWAYS check the headspace, matching numbers or not.
