Can anyone provide some suggestions for getting these off the barrel? I have removed the two pins from each but now I am not sure how to get them off with what I have to work with, which is simple tools. Is it ok to hit with a hammer and spin it or should they be pressed straight of?

I remember reading that the new gas block and sight base will slide on easily, is this true?

Thanks for any help.

with simple tools, this is gonna be a little tricky. you really should use an arbor press or hydraulic press.

the first thing you need to keep in mind is that the pressure must be applied parallel to the bbl.

if you can find a vise, allow the rifle to hang vertically and LOOSE in the vise jaws. use the jaws to shoulder against the edge of the rear of the fronst sight base or gas block.

depending upon the size and type of vise you have, you may have to use srips of steel bars to span the vise jaws. these strips can be taped together to keep them from splaying apart.

you can also use tape to protect the finish of your rifle where it comes into contact with the vise or steel bars.

now, protect the muzzle with a brass block. use a ball pein hammer to rap on the brass block. do not strike your muzzle! doing so will ruin it.
