I've been wondering if it's possible and legal to convert a single stack AK47 to accept high cap mags. I've searched this sight, but havent been able to find anything about it. |

It can be done legally if you change-out five (or six if you have a foreign-made muzzle brake) parts to US made ones. If you're determined to do it, changing-out the hammer, trigger, disconnector, pistol grip, and gas piston is probably the cheapest solution. Tapco (www.tapco.com) sells all of those items in a package for $60. You'll also have to spend some quality time with a Dremel tool and/or files to widen the magwell. I've done it with handtools on a Maadi, but it wasn't much fun. It would be easier and it wouldn't cost that much more to sell it and buy a Romanian SAR. What kind of AK is it that you're thinking about converting?z |
| Thanks for the advice. I already have an SAR1, I just noticed that the other ones are so cheap and was thinking about getting one for a project. I forgot about changing the foreign parts over to US made. I'm sure I can find a better way to spend some money... maybe a 37mm launcher for my AR :) |
