a week or so ago I came across a great video somewhere (probably youtube) detailing one guy's process of electro etching.  He used a block of wood with the one lead coming off a power supply stapled to it with the conductor exposed.  then he wrapped a cotton face cleaning pad around the block, it seemed to work very well and I want to replicate.  anyone have any ideas?  I could have sworn i bookmarked it...

I do all of my own selector markings via electro etching. This one only took 15 seconds or so:

The templates are Dungeon Designs - and I suspect that it was his vid as well - if you need another link here is one:

just the video i was thinking of...thanks a bunch.

i was toying around with some scrap and a DC power supply earlier without much luck.  what voltage/current are you using to etch?

also, how did you do your selector stops?  etch?  i was thinking i'd try to make a small jig to dremel them precisely with an oval grinding stone or something.

I'm using an Electromark SS-211 (Here) that I got on Ebay for $40 which was awesome since it's a $350 unit. It runs from 12-29V DC and 14-32V AC current.

I do my selector detents with a diamond Dremel bit by hand.

I use a car battery charger, like the one in the vid - i hit it 3 or 4 times, for 40 secs a piece, on 4.

I do the detents from the templates.

eta - so, not working?  not to be a dick, but red to the receiver, black to the handle.  otherwise you wont get it to work at all no matter how long or how much current you run.

this is what I'm using, works out well with very sharp edges

i'm sure you could find some at a craft store if you don't want to wait for shipping.

You can etch through park - but not paint.

any preference whether to park first then etch...or etch while it's in the white then park after?

I prefer to etch then coat in whatever (park, paint, oxide, etc).
