I'm a noob I admit but I'm wandering with the increase cost in parts kits is it still more cost effective to buy a kit and build or just gather the individual parts and assemble a complete ak47?

It's not as easy as "buying the parts kit and building"

You need to either buy or build rivet smashers, bending jig (or break press), harbor freight type press, etc, etc.

I probably have a few hundred dollars in build tools to make the job easier.

With the barrel ban the cheaper kits do not have the barrel installed. Which is quite a bit more work. My cheapest kit would be a romy G that I built.

99 Kit from centerfire without barrel
70 non chrome lined barrel from arms of America
30 FCG
30 Flat
10 rivets
10 muzzle brake.
30 duracoat

279 total. Plus misc other things like wood stain, MAPP gas for heat treating, etc.

I would say if you just wanted an AK then go buy one. If you want a hobby, and to feel a connection to your gun then build one, then another and another.....
