| A friend gave me a numbers matching AMD 65 kit. I am having my dealer get this receiver for me. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=192246284 my question is should I get the tools to rivet it together or get a screw kit. $250 for a rivet jig and another $65.00 for the trigger guard jig seems like too much to invest. I don't know much about these is it worth it to do the build right? Thanks |

You don't have to buy all the jigs; the only one I purchased was the trigger guard riveter. I didn't use a hydraulic press either. I have access to a big ass vice which is more than capable of applying adaquate pressure. Do some research on the allthread method and bolt cutter riveter method. It can be done low budget, you just gotta get creative. At the end of the day, I'm pretty sure no two AK builders do it the exact same way. Some will say their methods are better, and maybe they are, but there are many ways that will work. The way to start is to get some extra rivets and look at the tools you have and figure out a way to make it happen. The BIY forum will become your friend, but if you ask 5 people how to do something, you'll probably get 5 different answers. Gun Plumber (or something like that) has good advice to offer. Look around for the complete Egyptian Maadi build that was written up, his was done on a low budget as was mine. I did a short write up few months ago that pointed out some of the differences between my Maadi build and his. Good luck! |

Go ahead and buy the jigs, the thing about AK building is is habit forming.
Ounce you build one you will want to build another, and another, and another..ect. For some it is addictive as crack. And if you get lucky and don't catch the bug you can resell the jigs for just about what you bought them for. Good Luck, and Happy Building! |
| I ordered the tools. I got the jaws from http://www.tothtool.com/product_info.php?cPath=59&products_id=43&osCsid=c362dce88a4b4ca478ea3a287292dabf great service. I had them in 2 days. I havent used them yet but they are made very well. I was thinking about buying a small blasting cabinet to prep the parts for duracoat. I am considering some kind of digital. |
