remove the upper wood handgard from the gas tube? I was going to try something but decided I didn't want to take the chance and "F" something up.
thanks

It rotates around the gas tube. Grab the wood with one hand and the metal tube with the other and twist them opposite directions. Sometimes they take a lot of effort to twist.

Rotate the tube in the handguard (or vice versa) 180* until the slots line up and they pull apart.

I trick I use if its super tight. I'll put the squared end into the vise to hold it in place then put on a pair of gloves and twist the handguard off.

I use a pair of those cotton gloves with the rubber coating to get some traction. Usually it comes right off.

The trick is be sure to apply pressure to the bottom of the wood and not "pinch" it as that results in cracking it.
