hey all,
i 've been out of the ak game for a while, but got the bug again recently and dug out a few that i slapped together a couple of years back. like a knucklehead i realized that i didn't put a rail on the sides, but now i want a commie scope. i have found a few places to get the rails online, but have no idea which one is best. any suggestions on which one to get (they kinda all look the same to me)? eta: leaning towards the mtk-02 from kalinka. eta2: man, this side of arfcom is dead compared to how it used to be. i guess that's what happened when all the cheap kits dried up / were banned from importation... |

I have used siderails from all sorts of places ranging from Tapco and Red Star to rails stripped off kits. My personal favorites are from Kalinka Optics right now, but that could change. The methods for installing them is either spot welding (some even tig/mig weld them) and rivet or screw them on. To each there is a preferred method. My preferred method for attaching them is all the above. Some worked better using rivets (only one I threaded was actually my SKS) while other were best spot welded (the PSL scope mounts are best along the upper rails). I hope this helps. Good luck and be sure to show pictures. |

You're right, this side is ARFcom is already in Twilight Zone. Only few die-hards post here.
MTK-02 fits stamped 47, stamped 74, and all milled receivers. It can be attached with screws or rivets. They are mounted to the side of receiver only, with no additional support of the trunnion. Through the trunnion attachment is better, like it's done on SGL series rifles. Correct rails (through the trunnion) for stamped 47 are extremely difficult to find. If Tantal does not have any of those, I don't know who does. What rifle do you intend to mount the rail to? |
