The other day I came across some ak kits that were not dismantled, meaning, the receiver was cut, but the trunions were still in tact and the barrel/gas block/fsb were still pinned to the barrel.
Does anyone remember seeing these kits? I bet I visit 150 ak related sites a day, and my memory sucks.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about, I would appreciate a link to the site thanks in advance! |

Apex and Centerfire have milled and stamped kits with intact barrels. Copes has AMD kits w/original barrel. Inter ord has romy kits w/U.S. barrel.
I bought one of the CFS milled RPK kits. The wood was nice, all parts were there but the bore is nasty. Mine fails the bullet test but may be alright after counterboring. I've got a few new in white barrels for Yugo RPK's so I'm not worried. The plus was the receiver was cut well behind the lightening cut so a reweld should come out real nice on this one. |

thanks for the detailed info on the centerfire stuff, I was reading up on them for a while and seemed like everyone likes them. I got the stamped m72 kit. This will be my first build, as I've had about a dozen AK variants and refinished most of them, but never actually built one from a kit. So this should be fun. The condition of the kit will be the deciding factor on whether or not I'm welding it. If it's real clean with a good bore, then I'll rivet it. If not, I'll weld. I'm an experienced welder of 10 yrs, so no worries thanks for the input everyone! |
