| any good online guides for adjusting head spacing on an ak build i am still aquiring parts and im a little worried about this how often does the head spacing come out wrong?? or is that a sign that a somthing went wrong in the build up?? thanks |

Every matching number kit I have built has been fine thus far .
If you are building a AK using a matching number kit you might be ok, but is it worth having a potential kaboom?? I have never seen a AK blow up, but i don't want to be that guy. I would check the headspace, all you need is a no-go guage, $38 shipped from Masons reamers. You can use a live round for a go guage, just make sure the firing pin is out. FREE |

thanks free i have no problem buying the go no go gauge i just am curious if i run into a problem what do i do next thanks If you run into a problem, you look for any possible error in assembly or damage to the parts that might be causing the headspace issue. If the parts are fine, but it's still out of spec, then you adjust it.. not really a whole lot of fun for the home builder. Adjustment is made one of two ways.. by fitting a new bolt that headspaces correctly in the receiver, or by removing the barrel pin and shifting the barrel fore or aft to correct tight or loose conditions, respectively. Once it's adjusted, the barrel pin hole needs to be drilled / machined out to whatever size cleans up the misalignment and then a new (oversize) pin is fitted. -L |

Ditto - but if the worst occurs? There is a bright side. You will not be the guy undergoing involuntary plastic surgery with a vacation at the local ER. Yes, you MIGHT have to have a pro adjust your rifle - but it's far better to do this than to go looking for ones nose in a cornfield. Thank you for using gauges - it's the first step in professionalism. |
