What nationality? what caliber? what model? Please allow me to jump in here... I too am looking for a barrel and/or a FSB for a Chinese, 7.62x39, NHM-91. I'd rather buy a shorter barrel instead of chopping down my original long barrel. But if I can't find one, my smith will cut down my original barrel. He's already prepping the rifle for the job. But in the process he learned that the FSB won't come off. He said that he's tried heating it and he's tried a claw puller, but it won't come off. So am looking for a solution to get my AK up and running again (with her new and improved shorter 16-1/2" barrel profile). Any leads would be greatly appreciated. |

Lowammo, he needs to use a press.
boy the amd 65 in factory length are hard to find and expensive when you do find them. BUT you can get a $79 romy barrel from apex and build it. You will need to either build it at 16" and change the gas tube or better, have a machine shop turn the barrel down so you can keep the same gas block. he can shorten it too if you like. |

Lowammo, he needs to use a press. Assuming that he didn't overlook removing the two pins.. seems far-fetched, but you never know. And while I've never come across it myself, I've heard of sight blocks being soldered on when they were too loose to sit still for drilling & pinning. Tell the smith to look *really* hard for evidence of soldering. BUT you can get a $79 romy barrel from apex and build it. I bought a full-length barrel and opted to build the AMD-65 as an AMD-63 (being as I already have a 65). But then again, it might just end up as an SA-85 ;-) If he wants to go the AMD-63 route, here's a little trick I came up with: Take the AMD-65 gas tube and (using a lathe) turn the tube out of the fitting so you're just left with the AMD style fitting. Then, get a Saiga gas tube and do the opposite - turn the fitting off of the tube, saving the tube. Fit the two together, line them up and silver solder together. Now you've got an AMD-63 gas tube. -L |

I really appreciate the info. The plan was to turn down the barrel but he said that he couldn't get the FSB off. I too, wondered if the smith simply overlooked the obvious pins. I want to believe that he's a smart enough guy to look for the pins. He is afterall the smith in the most popular gun shop in town. We looked at a barrel that he had in the shop but there was an issue with fit on the Chinese receiver. I was on my lunch break that day, I'll go back tomorrow (on my day off) and check all of the options again. |

ok who has barrells in stock i cant find any Busboy, My smith has a couple of barrels in his shop. The finish looked like surplus take off barrels. If you're interested, let me know by posting a reply here in your thread. I'll see it and get more info on the barrel ( –––– My IM box is full at the moment). I'd be happy to get some pics, his price and his contact info for you. |
