Replacing a mag catch is a bitch.
A bolt is going to catch and cause cuts over time, I'd use a fresh rivet, Brownell's sells them. K-var.com has mag catches. Might as well get a new spring too. You also need 2 ~15mm ball bearings. 1) Grind off the head of the existing rivet and punch it out. 2) Put the new mag catch in place. 3) Check function. It's very likely you're going to have to file the mag catch so that it engages correctly. Go slow and use a file, not a dremel. Check for fit often. Much easier to remove more steel than to put it back. 4) Once you're happy with the fit, the real fun starts. WEAR YOUR SAFETY GLASSES! THE MAG SPRING WILL TRY TO PUT YOUR EYE OUT AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY! 5) Put the legs of tHe spring in a vise. While holding the srping to keep it from flipping, tighten the vice to compress the legs of the spring with your other hand. 6) With your 3rd hand, put a small cable tie around the compressed legs of the spring. 7) Start the rivet in, place the mag catch and spring in place. 8) Using tape, place the ball bearing on each side of the trigger guard in the dimples of the new rivet. 9) Crush the piss out of the ball bearings using the vise. Since you're applying pressure to both sides of the rivet at once, it has to flatten out on both sides, forming the rivet heads. Check to make sure you're still on the rivet as you increase pressure. Admire you're new mag catch and rivet. BSW |
