I need to replace my lever with one that is longer so it engages the mags (Century cut) but what do I replace the cross pin with when done?

Actually if you take the original one out carefully you might get lucky enough to reuse it. If not, K-Var is the only place I know of that carry new ones.

I have NEVER needed to replace the old pin.

I've done this many times.

YOu can take the old latch and add weld to it and carefully reprofile it but it's a bitch. make it curved at the front.

here is what you do.

knock pin out with a punch.

then, before installation, use a hammer and anvil, and "taper" one end.

this will aid in reinstalation.

after you get it installed, reflare it by putting the unmodified end onthe anvil and mushroom the tappered end back to originl dimensions. CAREFULLY to not over flare it cause you will make the latch hard to move if you overdo it.

It's not an easy job BTW

I have a similar issue I wonder if you can advise me with.

I have a brand new WASR-10; the mag catch pivot pin backed itself out of the hole on one side.  I have the pin, catch and spring and merely want to reassemble.   The pin goes through the holes eaisly enough (too easy?) and is flared on one side but I can't figure out how the spring goes back in.  The only way I haven't tried appears very difficult to compress the spring....

Any advice?  Also can I possibly use a screw and nut instead of the pin, so it doesn't happen again?

Thanks,
Jim
