Just finished my first build.  I have to say that it was more of a PITA than I had thought it would be.  The only thing left before it is ready to shoot is to replace the barrel pin.  I drilled a hole in it (it was really tough) when I removed it.  I pounded it back in, but I think it should be replaced.  Metal and wood are unrefinished, just a little cold blue here and there.

receiver is a Nodak economy, FCG is Arsenal, Tapco gas piston, US slant brake

I need a sling, anyone know where to get an original Romanian at a decent price?

I spent a lot of time lurking on this forum before and during the build.  Thanks to all that contribute!

GunBroker.com has slings all over the place. AKbuilder.com has the barrel pins. I would not shoot it without the proper barrel pin or you risk screwing up headspacing if the pin crimps in some (rare but possible) because of the small hole in it.

Looks very nice. You would be surprised at the guys who jump in without spending the time and end up with a pile of problem slag.

Since were sharing Romanian. Here is my latest.  I wanted to do something different. Yes that is more CLP leaking out after a shoot and not the paint. Yours looks very nice. The black "yugo" style hand gaurd is a great fit. Have you had any issues with the Tapco hinge pin with the folder? I heard they went to metal pins now. This is Tapco furniture as well.

Brooklyn,

What color and type of paint is that?

I just got done Duracoating a Romanian MD63 with ACU Grey/Green with just a touch of flat black added in.  In the sunlight it is a dead ringer for the old WWII German Field Grey.

I'll post pictures once I get everything reassembled.  It's curing in my oven/garage currently.

That is Brownells "Coyote" alumahyde II. It was semi baked on. I built a hot box that stays at around 200 degree's with a heat bulb. It does a great job and hangs for about a week. This is not the bake on but the air dry. Rifle is pre heated for a few hours and then sprayed.

What weapons did the Germans use feldgrau on?  Does it look something like this?  I had to have the paint specially made for my 1940 German truck. If you have found a dead match for field gray that is great! I know a company now making and selling all the german camo in spray cans.  1944 militira

Brooklynn,

That is pretty much a match for what I ended up with.

Once I get things reassembled I'll shoot a picture or two.

Looks good! I found some pins at my local small family owned hardware store in the screw nut and bolt isle. Might want to see what you can find at yours.

Thanks all,
I just ordered a barrel pin form powers custom.  Hope to get it knocked in by the weekend.

I really just put the drilled pin back in to see if it would fit (i.e. the barrel was lined up properly).  When I was pressing the barrel in, every time it moved, it would pop and jump like 3/32".  I had to pop it back and forth a few times before it happened to magically stop perfectly lined up.  It kept jumping from in too much to out too much.

I have had a few barrels decide to do this and when in doubt, push out WAY too far and toss in the freezer for a couple hours and then press it back. The shirkage makes things move different. It was common practice to bump the barrel some even after the pin was installed.

I'll have to try that if I build again.  Hell, I'm sure I will at this point.

The pin and rivet came in last night and they are in!  I'll be shooting on Sunday!
