I am interested in purchasing a " Virgin M70 Stamped Underfolder Kit" that I have located that describes itself as "Kits have never been assembled, Barrel is not pressed in trunnion, Front & rear trunnions have not been bored for pins, Gas ports have not been bored for pins, Kit is completely disassembled, Virgin M70 stamped underfolder parts kit, New parts." Is this a decent buy at $330 to turn over to a AK builder with a receiver? I do not understand the ramifications of the statements "barrel is not pressed in trunnion, Front & rear trunnions have not been bored for pins, Gas ports have not been bored for pins" as to if they mean a lot more $ when it comes to getting a rifle built from the parts. Can someone educate me? Thanks |

A virgin kit is just that, it's never been assembled in any way. All the rivet and pin hole have never been drilled/machined, so when the barrel is put into the trunion it will need to be headspaced and the barrel pin hole cut through the trunion & barrel. So it is a little more work then putting together a demilled rifle but the plus side is it's a brand new rifle that's never been fired. |
Or they add additional $ to the assembly price. I have seen many say that their builder charges an extra $100 on to their normal build price. I saw a post from Jim Fuller that he charges an extra $200 on to his build price. Speaking for a home-builder's standpoint the Virgin Kit's reduced price will probably cost you more in the long run and will definitely increase your build time. |
