OK, Im working on my first AK project and had a question.  I have completely disassembled everything including the fron barrel from the trunnion.  This kit has all matching numbers and is in great condition. the only thing I am waiting for is the receiver which should be here next week. My question is this, If I drive the barrel back in the trunnion, and reseat the barrel pin, how much can the headspace be off ?  and if it is off can it be adjusted ?  Thank you for your help

It should not be off at all. Buy or borrow a headspace gauge just to be sure.

Use the tape trick to check the headspace.

Should be done on every build.

By "tape trick" you mean measure the spacing? I'm new to builds as well.

What's the tape trick?

tape trick

also check the first 30 or so rounds you shoot, there could be a slight dent near the top, but no cracking or anything like that.

ETA: oh, and I use headspace gauges

I use headspace gauges also. I built a Tantal today and didn't have them in that caliber, so I used the tape trick.

Worked great. I used thiner tape than masking tape.

Bolt closed freely on a round without it. I put one layer on and felt quite a bit of resistance.

I used a file around the cartridge base to get the excess off.
AGI uses this method as well. That is where I learned about it. It is in their "How to Build an AK from a Parts Kit" video.

Some people think it is stupid, but it works.
