I am trying to remove the original stock on my Romanian WASR22 with a composite one from Tapco.

I removed the 2 screws on top but can get the stock to move. I put the stock in a vise
to pry out with a screw driver but decided to ask for suggestions before
getting to crazy with it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Assuming this is a built rifle and not one you are trying to build your options are fewer than if it is on a kit to be built.  If it is on a kit to be built wait until you demill the rear.  If it is not, then you will have to vise the receiver and with a long object (like a screw driver) "whack" it out.  You could also utilize a press if you have access to one and probably get better cleaner results.

Stamped receiver stock is just held in place with the two screws, and a tight fit in the receiver.

Once you have removed the two screws, just pry it out with a screwdriver.  There is usually a hole on the top of the rear trunnion that you can wedge the screwdriver in and use for leverage to pry the stock out, just like pictured here.

I started to try this and the screwdiver started to bend. I just wanted to be sure that if I used more force it would not damage anything.

I will try something a little stronger.

akolleth, thanks for the help.

It is just a replacement stock on an existing build. I will have to use the screwdriver method because I do not have access to a press.

uscombatdiver, thanks for the help.

I have used a large rubber mallet before. Just hit all 4 sides of the stock in a downward stroke while holding onto the receiver or barrel. It will start to slowly come off.
