I'm unfortunately craving something belt fed.  I can't really afford spending $1900 for the Vector on Atlantic Firearms, but I saw that ORF has RPD kits for $400.  Where would you go about getting a receiver for building one of those?  I didn't see anything available from NDS.

It's not an AK.

Very very different.  Other than caliber, I can't think of one similarity.

Vector sells the receivers (they're milled), but you're gonna need more than just the receiver and a hammer to get it together in a legal semi configuration.

Beltfeds are expensive and aren't for everyone....  ;-))

What about Centerfire's RPD kits, they come with a demilled receiver, don't they? Can they be rewelded into a semi build, like Weaponeer does with Bren kits?

I didn't know anything about them, if its that difficult of a task, I may just have to settle for an RPK.  For $500, I may just buy one from J&G already built.  Any opinions on the Romanian or Yugo they offer?

There's a bit more to it than that, although you're free to try just welding the pieces of the machinegun receiver back together if you want....

beltfeds are a load of fun.. but require more skill to get working...
just look at what it takes to get a mg42 running

Might want to look into building a 1919A4, thier fairly cheap and will last a lifetime.

You cannot reweld a machine gun receiver back together. ATF rules once a machine gun always a machine gun. A company rewelded M14 receivers together and the ATF is confiscating them when they can find them. Be safe and stay away from cut receivers.

Just an FYI and My $0.02.

no no no.  I am sorry but your statement dr marley is only PARTIALLY correct.  You CAN reweld a full auto receiver IF you do certian things to prevent it being full auto.  This topic has been covered ad nausium.

Please look here for ideas on the rpd build:
http://www.weaponeer.net/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=439

or here:

http://www.gunco.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=252

there are 80% receivers out there as well.
and you will find info on those links.

VZ58 is right, you can reweld a MG receiver as long as the parts that accept, or make it an MG are removed,  not reinstalled, and are not able to be installed.

On an AK, this means no third hole, and no slotted right side rail.
On a 1919, this means a thicker RSP that requires modificaitons to the internal parts.
I dont know enough about RPDs to say what would be involved, but they are being sold as SA so something is possible.

If the 'once an MG, always an MG' thing were true, they could not sell parts kits with MG receiver stubs intact.
