I need a little education I have a Egyptian Maddi that I paid way to much for about 15 years ago when the ban was in full effect. It had the thumb hole stock and all of the leagle things for the time. What can I change now that the Ban is off. Can I put the original style buttstock and pistol grip? What about flash hiders. What about a shorter barrel FLUFF |

The Ban is GONE. It's like it never existed. As long as you meet the American parts requirements and you don't live in an area that still has a Ban-like law, do what you want. The current law requires that you install a certain number of American-made parts when you start adding threaded muzzles and standard stocks. For the best stocks, which are American made, check out Ironwood Designs. These are every bit the equal of any original military wood. These count toward the parts count: ironwooddesigns.com/ |
| Essentially it is fine as it is now (probably compliant with the current law seeing how it is not as strict). If you switch anything out replace it with an American part. If you want to revert back to the original parts it is a little more challenging seeing how you don't know which part are US parts and which are the originals. If you can locate which are US parts (many have something on them indicating they are) then you can knowingly make the changes. So long as you have 6 US made parts on it you should be fine. The trigger group counts as 3 as well as the mag. So if you just have a US trigger group and US mag you should be fine no matter what you do (with the exception of shortening the barrel less than 16 inches, that requires extra permissions from Big Brother). |
+1 for Ironwood. Just bought a Walnut stock for my MAK90. Beautiful wood! |

Ok so it looks like I need 6 american made parts. My rifle has a threaded barrel that "Had" a cap welded on it. But I have taken it off and put on a muzzle break. I have a plastic fiberforce butt stock on it now , but I would preferr a wooden stock and a pistol grip. The stock trigger sucks. Where is the best place to find the "US" parts to make up the 6 parts that I need ?? |

There are several places to find US AK parts, search some of the recent forums and you will save me from trying to list them all. The compliancy is not so much about having a certain number of US parts as it is not having too many imported parts. For example you could remove the muzzle brake and not use one thereby only needing 5 US parts. The parts that qualify for compliancy are very specific parts and not just any old thing (I'm sure some one could add the 922 list). Having said all that, the few sites that come to mind are: www.copesdist.com www.k-var.com www.akpartskits.com www.akparts.com www.centerfiresystems.com www.dpharms.com www.cheaperthandirt.com (many more that just did not immediately come to mind) |
Does anyone know if the Century Arms "Maadi" MISR90's with the single-stack magazine well are built on a US receiver? Century seems to get implicated as the people who put the front sight blocks on crooked so they seem to have been assembled in the US. |
| Hard to say, I have heard of them building their own receivers and importing some built in Romania. Our ban we had does not help the matter as that was what encouraged the single stack builds to be so common. If the receiver was made in the US it usually lists something that indicates it was (name of a city or US company) otherwise it is probably imported as well. |
