[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Bolt Carrier Key

Was cleaning my bolt carrier key and got the head of a q-tip stuck in it. Tried using a needle to get it out then poured Hoppes down it to loosen it. Cannot get it out. Is a "professional required to remove the screws and take the key off and reassemble it? I've read that the screws are staked. Does that make any difference? Any advice is much appreciated.

I had thought that might remedy it, but was afraid of any over-pressure. I've crammed it in there pretty tight trying to get it out. Think it's still safe to shoot?

Take a small paper clip or a piece of wire and bend a small hook into one end.

Insert, twirl and pull out.

That is what pipe cleaners are for....

Compressed air from the bolt side. Suitably plug the firing pin and other vent holes and apply compressed air from the bolt opening.

Canned air from the backside.

You really don't need to stick anything in it except maybe the straw attached to a can of brake cleaner if you feel it needs cleaning. Gas tubes and keys are pretty much self-cleaning.

Quit cleaning (and by default, shoving shit into) the carrier key. I've literally never shoved anything inside my carrier key to "clean" it and I've never had an issue.

I'm sure you know this now, just thought it should be reiterated.

Can't you just from day to day dribble some Hoppe's on it until the paper stem finally breaks down and softens? Maybe seal off the hole in the bore of the BC and then fill the key with Hoppes.
