While doing my first thorough cleaning of my AR, this part came out. I cannot get the tiny spring seated into the slot in the piece to its left. Any ideas on how to proceed:

Thanks.

I've not had this issue before, so proceed with caution if you take my advice.

The spring obviously sits in the recess at the top of the extractor.  I believe its held in simply by friction.  Either you're putting it in upside down or the O-ring has shifted and is preventing the spring from going to the full depth down and getting a good friction fit.  Try moving the O-ring around and getting the spring deeper into the recess.  Another thought is that a lot of ARs don't have an O-ring; you may want to try removing it completely and see if you even need it.

Thanks for the quick response. I believe the item to the far right is a pin to retain the spring.

Fix your pic so we know what you are talking about.

I assumed the link was working given the prior responses. Let me try a few options.

Pre-stage the pin into place.  You have to press it down a little then the pin will slip in place.  The spring pushes back with enough tension to hold it in place...
