What am I doing wrong? This thing seems pointless. The scraper lugs are smaller the the bolt lugs and the area between the upper's lugs and the chamber flares out-meaning the only thing this is doing is rubbing against the lip of the chamber. The video they have http://youtu.be/gLzsSOy7YuM  makes it look like it is flush with the entire chamber. This thing is useless. Unless I'm missing something major, it's back to a chamber brush for me.

I am using th 5.56 model on several different 5.56's.

Thoughts/Suggestions?

It's a great way for them to make money selling these to people who haven't looked closely at how their rifle works. And maybe to some military or police who's armorer's demand everything be spotless.

I get that it's marketed to overcleaners, but it doesn't do what it advertises:(.

Sent their customer service an email asking if I did something wrong-if not, I want to return because it doesn't work as advertised.

Worthless in my opinion.

Much better off with a regular chamber brush and a variety of different size Q-tips.

I use a chamber brush every cleaning-I've thought about the drill, but for some reason I'm scared I'll hurt my gun. Do you use it?

Do you guys actually need to drill out the chamber fouling?

I've found the same thing.  Got these as a stocking stuff'er, (My wife saw the word "AR15 star chamber", and was like HOW COOL IS THAT!?)  So I have them, and figured why not give it a shot, even though it's not really necessary.   But like you, they don't actually work.  You can't spin it around on the inside, so all it does is mop the chamber face, and clean the sides of the lugs.  Which I suppose isn't a total waste, but not much real benefit.

I like Otis, they make some amazing cleaning tools.

This however is not needed, and I have never seen baked on carbon in the locking lug recess area of the barrel extension that couldn't be removed by a chamber brush followed by a old tshirt.

A drill?  yea...that's a good idea.  He is trolling the thread.

Couple of extensions attached to the drill with the star chamber brush on the other end. Set for a low speed and it cleans the carbon...

...now, you use a 24v hammer drill with that setup and you will probably break something.

Whether or not it's needed isn't the point. The thing doesn't work as advertised :/ I went into this knowing it was above and beyond-white glove clean type of deal. My issue is it simply doesn't work as advertised. You're supposed to be able to clean your OCD away-I am literally scraping nothing. This is what pisses me off.:)

You fell for marketing hype, you lost.

Bite the bullet and move one.
