| I had to purchase some synthetic oil for my grandfather clock, with most of it left over. Is it at all useable on any portion of the AR? |

the 2 dumbest people on the planet right now are those that voted for oblunder and those that pay more than mobil 1 prices for gun oil I came home from SHOT this year with a bottle of Militec, a bottle of Gunzilla, a bottle of some Otis bore cleaner, sample packs of frog lube, seal 1, tetra grease, FireClean and others. More than enough to last me the entire year. |
| About 9 years ago, we bought a passat TDI. This motor required special (and hard to find) oil, with a "505.01" rating. Had an extra liter of it after selling the car, and after almost 3 years as my go to gun lube, I still have 850 ml. remaining. I thoroughly coat the BCG , and have no trouble removing carbon. I use a cleaned out eye dropper bottle. |

I use a mixture of full synthetic 10w-30, full synthetic ATF, STP oil treatment and Hoppes #9 solvent. Recipe makes a gallon, lasts forever and my firearms run like tops. Let me know if you want the recipe. Post it up! I love Ed's Red and like mixing up new stuff! . |

Yes works great for the bore also.

Do you use this for cleaning the bore also? Thank you. Quoted:

I'll post pictures for all to see vs traditional mobil 1 alone. |

And your post proves it for you.
Good luck with the oil mix... Quoted:

Back on theme, synthetic motor oil is ideal for AR lubrication, when you think of the requirements. I use a modern commercial diesel direct injection synthetic: Shell Rotella T-6 5w40.
The T-6 Rotella is also favored in direct injection turbocharged high performance gasoline engines, especially the high specific output racing versions. Like direct injection diesels, also usually turbocharged, the engines run very rich, tend to have excessively high carbon deposits, and have problems with fuel dilution and contamination of the oil, which also must not break down from being heated to over 1500 degrees F. when passing through the turbocharger to lubricate the center shaft bearings. This is extreme duty. AR15s use a "dirty" direct impingement operating system which sends hot and carbon contaminated gasses back through the BCG to directly cycle the bolt. The operating conditions are actually quite similar in terms of heat, carbon and contaminating gasses to what we see in direct injection turbocharged engines. This makes the synthetic oil with its detergent package for diesel and direct injection turbo engines ideal for our rifles. What is even better is that a $6 quart lasts a lifetime. |

How's your test going?

I've been traveling for work but have a few weeks now so I will get to it and report back |
