I received a Barnes Precision BCG from a buddy through a trade, it looked like he had never cleaned it. Finally got the carrier back to original finish, but the bolt has been more of a hassle. When I started it look like a regular Parkerized bolt, I've removed quite a bit of carbon but it is still nowhere near the brighter finish of the carrier. And yes it is a matched NiB bolt.

Suggestions?

NiB darkens with use. It is like seasoning. Once they darken, I believe is permanent, like pipes on a bike.

You could try to soak yours in any lube, but I think it's a patina that is permanent. The bolt should darken faster than the carrier due to it's service/exposure. I have many NiB parts, they all darken as they are used while staying slick. I have not looked at my WMD bolt in a few years and lot's of rounds- mostly I just drop a few drops of oil on mine and use them. My Spikes NiB BCG is in a 5.45 AR that sees almost all corrosive ammo (10k+), so I usually clean it within a week of using it. I believe it's bolt is quite dark, darker than the carrier (I think). I have never scrubbed mine, I just wash it in the sink or shower, wipe it down and lube it. I prefer them to darken some as they are used, so I don't scrub. YMMV

tlmllc,

Personally on mine I don't mind if it darkens.....Like it was previosly stated it like seasoning. Your main issue is along as the nickle borm coating doesn't flake off or chip.
