Doing a couple of builds for now and general maintenance. Going to be using standard flattop uppers.
I have seen 3 types of upper vice blocks aimed at the do it yourselfer. 1) black clamshell. suppose to be the best for barrel install and removal but not for optics work. 2) Nylon with two pins "DDPMS claw" type 3) same as #2 but in metal without the bracing inside the upper when attached. Which one of the 3 would you recommend. I like the ones with the pins that kinda mimic a lower but have heard you can destroy an upper torquing a barrel nut using them. Any comments/suggestions would be helpful. Thanks JBL |

I really like this one-
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FCK3BQ8/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 you put the upper in sideways and it is rock solid. I have also used this one with some leather to keep it from sliding- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EBN9TTA/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
| don't buy the clamshell from brownells,I sent 2 back with faulty workmanship, bought a geiselle reaction rod instead, and I also have a dpms panther claw which is rarely used, but one of the delrin magwell blocks gets a lot of use . just depends on what you are doing |
