I bought my first center fire rifle, a S&W M&P 16" 5.56 in 1/8 twist.  I've done quite a bit of research on proper barrel break in and cleaning procedures, and I'm lost in a sea of opinions.

I bought the Dewey AR15 Complete Cleaning Kit, so i have a nylon 1 piece rod, and rod guide (among other parts), and i think i found a 15 minute video set that seem to contain most of the recommendations that i have read about as far as how to cbreak in a barrel, and clean it, without damage it from improper cleaning techniques.

What do you guys think about these instructions?

Let me be the first to say it.

Barrel break in is bullshit.

The most important thing is do not get the barrel hot during the first 100 or so rounds. Use whatever method you choose. Even black magic. As long as you do not get the barrel hot during those initial rounds you will be fine

It is a chrome lined barrel--just clean it before you shoot it and then shoot it.

Everybody has an opinion on barrel break in and whether it's needed or even any good.

The best advice is to do exactly what the barrel or gun maker recommends.  If they don't have any into in the owners manual, email them and ask, then do just what they recommend.

As above, hard chrome barrels are different.  No barrel break in is needed, and in fact is not possible due to the very hard chrome lining.

Barrel break in is BS in an AR or any combat type firearm especially if it has a chrome lined bore and chamber. The whole barrel break in thing came from the match shooters who have expensive non-chrome barrels.
