Ok, been lurking here for almost a year and never posted anything but im stuck now with what to do. How do I cover this taper ream up without dropping the rail and getting a 12 inch. I got a good deal on the rail thinking it would work but i didnt pay attention that it was for carbine gas systems and i have a midsize (im still learning alot daily). Took it all to the smith and dropped it off, went and picked it up and he told me that i ordered the wrong size. It was already on there so i just got the endcap and old handguards and went home. Did not notice the cutout, wouldnt care but it looks very noticeable and its sharp as all get out. I dont wanna go through the trouble of going back to the smith to pay him to take off the rail, then sell it. Buy a new one. Go back and pay him again to put the longer one on. So was gonna ask, what yall think i should do, new longer gas block, barrel mounted mini rail, barrel mounted bayonet? Its a yankee hill spectre size on a spikes midsize upper. YHM low-pro gas block. I have the endcap cause i thought i would cover up the gas block, just dont seem safe such a fragile piece is exposed. All its ever gonna see is white tail and hogs, no combat situations coming my way (I hope).

A longer gas block should work.

Maybe this?

You have a couple of options first would be to just leave it like that its not that noticable on the bottom, but if you must, you can try and take an old pin cut it and shape it to fit the hole and patch it that way.  This however is a lot of work, If it was me and I just had to fill it I would mix  a little JB weld high heat and fill it in.

I would just get an extended gas block. I like Rainier's a lot http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2977. It looks like its out of stock right now though.
