I was curious how many on here remove their flash hider, brake, etc. and clean the recess of the muzzle of their rifle. Is there a round count on how often this should take place and to what extent do you guys do this? I never put much thought into it and was curious what everyone's take on this is.

I mostly use foaming bore cleaner for the bore.  When I shoot that stuff in the barrel, some of it comes out the front and fills the flash hider. After 20 minutes or so of soaking, I usually swirl a patch around the inside of the fh to get the loosened carbon junk off.  Other than that, I don't do much. But when cleaning an AK, especially following the use of corrosive ammo, I take the muzzle thingy off and clean thoroughly behind it. But I also don't clean AKs each time I shoot unless corrosive ammo was used.

never. if you want a precision rifle get one that isnt threaded.

I would never remove my flash hider solely for the purpose of cleaning.

well how do you clean your muzzle crown then?

The crown was my concern. After around 500 rounds it had quite a bit of build-up around the crown. With the crown being the last thing the bullet touches, I figured it wouldn't hurt it.

That would be in the works, except I had to go and get engaged and now have a wedding to spend all of my hard earned cash on. Damn if she would just take a trip to the courthouse instead of me paying for a reception to "entertain" friends and family. They are just going to run up the beer tab anyways. Ungrateful jerks.

You don't.  The bullet isn't touching the carbon fouling around the crown.

Trying to clean it will end badly.

Ok, my next concern is that I'm thinking about getting a Battlecomp 1.5. The ports don't look to be that big and after a few thousand rounds, will that be fouled to a point that it is less effective? Or am I being overly cautious?

Dude, this is like cleaning your gas tube. Every time you fire a round, the pressure/blast of the bullet leaving the barrel is more than enough to dislodge anyoffending buildup of fouling in the ports. If you're that worried about it, you could soak the muzzle in a glass/mug of carbon cleaner every so often. I'd be much more worried about damaging my muzzle device from rough handling than I would be about it clogging up.

But yes, you're being overly cautious.

Leave the flash hider where it is. I never use anything more than a Q-Tip with solvent to touch the crown.

a battle rifle doesnt need that level of precision cleaning. there is a reason why the precision ARs dont have a muzzle device.  if you dont want to deal cleaning around a device get one without it.
