Anyone try this?

Hi. Cadmium would not work on any high friction parts or other AR parts due to its low temperature tolerances and softness. Even though it has good corrosion resistance, cathodic protection of steel and galvanic compatibility with aluminum, it is not resistant to many of the chemicals found in common solvents. It is also very toxic to work with and easily tarnishes when exposed to air. Not only that, but it is an expensive plating process when compared to phosphating, NP3 coating or anodizing.

Let me restate the "really toxic" part: It's really toxic.

Try it on what?
Takedown, pivot, and selector detents look like they are cad plated, but I have never checked to see if that is actually the case.

Most detent pins are made of either high brass or aluminum bronze. Aluminum bronze often appears to have been plated. The only company that I know who makes them out of steel is Olympic.

The pins in my parts kit have come from different sources including Midway, no OA.
Since they are magnetic I am thinking they are not brass.

Brass usually contains iron contaminants, ranging from 0.2 to 0.4%. A magnet, especially a neodymium based one, will attract to it if enough iron is present. But, there is always the possibility that the detents you ordered were made in China. In that case, who knows what they are really made of....

AFAIK my small parts are mil-spec.
These days who knows where they are actually made.
You are making some pretty specific statements.
Under the circumstances I would like to know the source.
