Hello, I just got a 20" chrome lined barreled upper, unfortunately I won't be able to shoot it for 6 months. Will the barrel be fine if I leave it in it's foam lined shipping box in it's original packing grease, or would you recommend I do something else?  It's not real humid here but I don't want to take the chance of returning home to a rusted barrel. This is my first firearm so I am a newb .

It'll be fine as-is.
Hard chrome lined bores are very rust resistant, and factory packing preservatives should protect it.

i WOULD OPEN THE BOX AND DOUBLE CHECK THAT A OIL IS ON THE PARK. IF IT LOOKS DRY, ADD SOME OIL.

Cleaning is way overrated. I run my rifles hard, boresnake the barrel and put it up. Relube and do it all over again. Done it for 10 years on 3 rifles and never an issue.

Why not play it safe, chrome or not.  If I were you I'd run an oily patch down the bore, dry patch it and put away and sleep well while you're away.

Cheap insurance and only takes a minute.
