I've been looking for a complete tool kit for building or maintaining an AR-15.  It seems I could piece one together but don't want to pay shipping on all the various parts either...  I put together my first AR lower but bought the upper complete, and now I have the bug and would like to build.  Any suggestions or list of tools to get without breaking the bank?

Thanks

Brownell's will have everything you need, they even have a kit but it is expensive and includes a lot of stuff you don't need.  I would piece together items.  Hard part is you won't know what you need until you start building for some things, others are personal preference.

If you already have what you need to build the lower then you only need a few more things for putting together an upper.  Things like a barrel nut tool, a torque wrench (which alot of people don't bother with), and I would recommend a good clamshell type upper reciever vise block and maybe a good strap wrench for some free float forends.  Unfortunately though, alot of the free floaters have their own proprietary nut and therefore all require that company's tool to install.

Of course there are quite a lot of options for tools and quality will vary but there is this kit from JSE Surplus. I ordered one myself but have not received or used it yet so I cannot say much more about it.

This seems like it includes most of the tools you need but several you probably already have,

you basically need a:

Good barrel wrench

upper receiver vice block ( the clamshell or two peice kind not the one that pins in or goes off the lower)

a good small punch set.  going down to at least 1/16th

decent small hammer

probably some needle nose pliers

a stock wrench

and the orange plastic front sight tower block brownells sells would be highly recommended by me.
