Always been hesitant to try it because I just keep thinking it will leave other chemicals in the gun.  Does it dry an leave no trace of it inside the gun?

It leaves a trace, I'm sure. Then again, what doesn't?

Save your money and buy NON-chlorinated brake cleaner from the auto section in Wal-Mart.

The ammonia works against the copper.

It strips all the oil, carbon, etc out.  You need to ensure you oil behind it.  I've been using it for years.  The jet from the compressed gas also helps blow shit out.  Do yourself a favor and stick the barrel in an old juice bottle when you use it.  You'll thank me later.

Brake cleaner is good for hardcore degreasing jobs, but I find regular pharmacy grade 91% isopropyl alcohol works very well for regular maintenance. Cheaper & non-toxic too.

The only fear I have when I use any of the spray solvents like this is that it removes all oils and greases.  That's good for cleaning, but unless you replace it, in all the little crevices you can get corrosion and damaged metal.  It's about as close as you can get to getting all oil out of the pores of the metal itself. Make sure to lube again after you use it.
