Hey guys,
What is everyone using for sight black?  I was going to try one of the Birchwood Casey super flat black pens.  Thoughts?
Thanks!

Hot pink nail polish on a KNS .34 front sight?

Obviously I'm a philistine, but I don't think it matters what you use. I'd go with a flat black paint pen, like you said.

used to use the sight black "bic" lighters

anyone know where to get them by the way, I can't seem to find them.......

I like more of a "soot" than the sprays

As you know, but other may not. the carbide smokers will rust a gun if not removed. the birchwood casy product does not rust a firearm.

Are you guys using some non-standard sights or something? All my sights shipped black.

not as black as you can get.

Sight black is used in CMP type shooting.

Interesting. Can you explain to me how it changes the sight picture? I'm honestly 100% curious as I have a Birchwood Casey "super black" paint pen and if it will improve my sight picture I'll definitely try it.

Well, for me, I do CMP/ NRA high power shooting and notice a glare off of my front sight.  I do a 6 o clock hold and as my front sight is coming up on target, it cuts off part of the black center.  I end up shooting low due to the glare off of the front sight imparing my vision of the center of the target.

there is always a tiny bit of glare you get off the tip of the front sight - either from finish wearing off or just because it's not 100% black

the sight black fixes that - I tend to shoot high if the tip has a bit of glare because it looks like I'm holding lower than I am (more "white" space between the front sight and target)

and, glare is just annoying  when the sun is at your back when you're shooting - helps there also....

Ray-Vin's Super Smoker is the shiznit these days.

I know a few "old timers" that still use an old metal 35mm film canister with a small hole poked in the top of it. Dump a few rocks in the canister, spit in it, light it, and you're off to the races....
