| Hey guys I live about a mile away from the ocean so my rifles get a lot of contact with the salt in the air (Rust). Anyone deal with this, what should I do to protect against this problem? |

so I should just take a little CLP and wipe it all over the rifle? how often should this be done? I've heard a paint brush works well for this type of application, you only need a very light coat. I would just do it as needed, it really depends. Are you experiencing any corrosion currently? How/where is the rifle stored? |
| Get it refinished in something more rust resistant than the parkerising. Or get some Duracote, or even a can or two of Aluminahyde from Brownells. It won't be some super high end finish, but it will be much, much more rust resistant on the exterior. And just keep the internals wet (with oil). |

Sounds to me like you need to use a good lube to protect them between outings and while your out shooting. Do you store them for long periods of time? If so a heavier weight lube would be beneficial. Slip 2000 EWL30 works great for me while in the gulf states around the salty air there.

Gun sock will work good, along with CLP oiled all over. But I live 33 miles from the coast and sometimes take my rifle over to the bays for some fun shooting. For storage and during use, there's nothing better than Birchwood-Casey's BARRICADE. It was DESIGNED to withstand saltwater corrosion. CLP won't do the job while you're with the rifle outside shooting at the ocean. Barricade will. It still wipes off, but it does a better job than any oil, CLP, or lube against saltwater spray. |
