| I bought a new upper without carrier group/bolt. I bought the carrier/bolt separately. Here's where I'm confused, some gun smiths have told me I need to check head space, others have said no because the barrel/barrel extension are already been set at the appropriate head space. I called RRA and they told me I need to check head space, it was critical. So who's right? |

Here is your answers. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=315921 As a note any professional gunsmith, armorer or manufacturer is going to recommend checking headspace as CYA policy.Way too much liability to tell someone over the phone to swap parts and roll on it.Plus its always a good idea to check headspace to CYA and your somewhat expensive investment.I personally use a USGI Field gauge per the -23&P on new assemblies and as part of my PM outlined again in the -23&P.
