How effective is BIRCHWOOD CASEY's BARRICADE (formerly "Sheath") for general rust prevention. I live in a very humid area and a couple weeks back i dried up one upper, next thing i know, it started to rust all over the places where i took off the CLP. I want something that i can spay all over and just forget about it.

Also is it safe to send a few shots down the pipe, or is it a stupid idea?

Thanks in advance!!!

Barricade is good stuff. There's probably better products out there but I've yet to develop rust on anything including duty weapons, and it's the only preservative I use. It goes on wet, but dries to the touch. Real easy to apply plus it smells nice too.
If you were in a hurry I could see spraying a firearm directly with it, but for normal applications, spray some on a cotton square which will be plenty enough to cover a rifle. I also like to coat the bore with it.

Really good stuff. Just make sure that you shake it well. RIG is a good option too.

What about sending a couple of dabs down the barrel? Would that be needed with a CL barrel for long term storage or not?

Thanks

Birchwood Casey bought it and is making and selling it now.

For long-term storage, coat every piece of metal liberally, including the bore. The more the better. Depending on how long we're talking about, you may want to opt for using a heavy grease, like cosmoline (link).
