Did search but didn't find any posts about air compressors, which surprised me since using them makes me feel like I'm cheating when I clean my firearms.

I know some people use cans of compressed air but small portable air compressors can be purchased for less than $100.00 and are significantly more powerful.  They're definitely "luxury" cleaning devices since they aren't essential but they make cleaning firearms MUCH easier.  I find them particularly useful for blowing the cleaner and junk out of bolts and for the occasional detailed cleaning.  As a bonus they come in useful for other projects around the house (inflating things, sweeping, dusting, and nailing, stapling, painting, sanding, drilling, or a bunch of other things if you buy attachments).  Be careful not to use too much pressure, I've heard of people damaging optics that way.

Me too... I like the fact the you can get everything completely dry of solvents/cleaners before you lube it.

I find those with a tank reservoir work best and it prevents blowing water (condensation) onto the firearm.

Yes, commercial Ingersol Rand with forty gal tank.  I use it for everything.  I  have had it  for a number of years now and use it dailly for something..  Very essential tool for gunsmithing!  Nice to be able to inflate an occasional tire now and again., too.

I really like the way you think!  See, I bought one for all that other unimportant stuff.  Never even occurred to me to use it for the firearms.  Thanks!

You're my hero.

I had a 40 gal vertical tank monster until I donated it to work.  I got a small "pancake" compressor for my fun room and it works just as good, is quieter and charges up quicker while wasting less energy.  A must have for the relatively small cost.  Oh yeah, cleaning guns just isn't the same without some compressed air.

Make sure you are doing this outside and wearing a mask.  There is a lot of shit in there you don't want to be breathing in in aerosol form.
