Guys,
I've been experimenting with oils, specifically synthetics. I've been testing Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W30 as a gun lubricant. It seems to work great in all my AR's, 1911's and S&W revolvers. For years, I've been using AMSOIL synthetic grease on my 1911 rails for IPSC/USPSA competition, and have recently given up on all the high-dollar oils as well. I've noticed that surface adherence is better, seems to stick around longer, suffers no change in viscosity with temperature, and leaves the weapon easier to clean. The additive packages for anti-corrosion in engines has to work with firearms too, don't you think? Anyone tried anything similar? |

Ive tried CLP for a couple decades and that seems to work pretty well too. I can't understand how CLP works as a lube for so many people. Might not be the worst choice but to me it's simply too thin to be effective for very long. I love the smell of the stuff and use copious amounts to spray down and clean the chamber, but when it comes to lubing the bolt and the carrier rails.... forgetaboutit. I assume you are talking about Break-Free? |

I assume you are talking about Break-Free? I agree, Breakfree CLP sucks as a lube, I've been using Slip 2000 EWL for months now and am very pleased with the results. I can lube up a BCG with EWL, put it away for months, and I when I pull it it out it's still wet, unlike Breakfree that will dry up in a week or so. |
