| I was cleaning my AR15 the other day and noticed some wear on the bolt cam pin. By wear I mean there is a defined step (easily catch your fingernail on it) in the cam pin where it is contacting the upper surface of the cut out in the bolt carrier group. I have fired around 700 rounds through my weapon with this bolt carrier group. Is this wear normal? Thanks for the help. |

This is a highjack! How good are the roller cam pins? I saw POF or someone had them advertised a while back. Meant to check up on them, just remembered when I saw this. The POF Roller Cam Pin comes in a kit for $45. I think it addresses more of a perceived problem than an actual one.

| It's an actual, though minor, problem, but only on some piston guns. Since there's no gas in the bolt carrier to keep the bolt itself forward, it stays in the carrier as the carrier is moving back, until the bolt lugs contact the lugs in the barrel extension (or "star chamber" as some call it). The cam pin rubs on the upper and wears a groove into it. It's self limiting though as it wears to a certain depth and stops. Some manufacturers put a spring in the carrier to push the bolt forward, others just don't worry about it. |
