Are you advertising, or asking a question? I've tried it, and have been using it on my 5.45 upper. So far I am not impressed in its ability to clean, its lubrication, or its rust prevention. Think Breakfree CLP beats it in all areas I care about. There is a difference between "USE BALLISTOL OIL!!!!!!!" and "Is anyone using Ballistol Oil?" dontcha think? A buddy gave me a couple of cans. Just wondering if it was any good. Thanks for your input... |

I love it. The trick is to know how to use it and what its good for. It emulsifies with H20 so I like to make a spray bottle mix to spray down my 74 with after shooting corrosive ammo. By the time I get home the crud comes off pretty easy and my AK dont get all rusty.
Its also smaller than Kroil. If you know anything about Kroil thats the best feature it has going for it. The ability to flow into the tightest and tiniest cracks and lift up fouling by getting under it. Ballistol supposedly has it beat. And I LOVED using Kroil till I ran out. They both are very handy when you're deep cleaning a barrel. I think Ballistol is also non toxic as it is made of plant seed extracts. When the Germans developed it one of the parameters they were trying to meet of all things as that it could be used as a field dressing. Once it came to the states via importer, the "for use on wounds" came off the label. Ballistol also conditions leather, wood and plastic. Safely. Id keep it and use it. You'll probably buy more when you run out. |

I use Ballistol alot, primarily on the black powder guns and milsurp's such as the Mausers, which I have a rather large amount of.Been using it since the late 90's and have no complaints at all in that application.
IMHO its an excellent all around product. When you apply it allow a few minutes for the alcohol to evaporate off before use as it helps prevent it from flashing off and smoking. In fact thats the only complaint I have about Ballistol is how bad it will smoke. Its very effective as a cleaner in both carbon and copper as its also a mild alkaline. In that regard about the same as Hoppe's No.9 on the copper as it takes a couple days to work but it will slowly and safely remove copper fouling. As a final note, buy the liquid bottles and avoid the aerosol. The aerosol is very thin and leaves behind very little lube. |
