I've just read up on it, probably going to get one because I'm paranoid and don't trust my clumsy self.

Was just wondering, do you guys use it? What's the risk if i don't buy it? Will i damage the crown?

My cleaning kit is looking like this:

Dewey 36" rod w/ jag
chamber brush
bore brush

Bore Guide

I read the cleaning kit section just wanted to know the general consensus on the bore guides, thanks

I do. Makes cleaning a hell of a lot easier. I use Tipton nylon brushes as well, if you're paranoid pick up some too.

I used to use those tipton nylon brushes too. Then I threw it in the trash and got one of these

As for bore guides, I use the JP aluminum bore guide. Very high quality.

I have a Dewey bore guide that inserts into the breech of the rifle (Midway Product#: 827544).  I have used the same guide now for over 15 years.  Cleaning from the breech is way better than messing up the crown on any rifle.  My other favorite cleaning items are Tipton cleaning rods (Dewey is great, Tipton is better IMHO), Dewey chamber brush kit (Midway #423606), Bore Tech cleaing solvent and Tipton nickel plated jags.  Dewey also makes a parker-hale jag that I have used quite a bit as well. Top all that off with a Possom Hollow cleaning link and some patches and you are good to go.

I use dewey bore guide for my AR cleaning and use either tipton of dewey coated rods.  I have both and i prefer the dewey.
