Anyone have any experince with using ultrasonic cleaners on their AR's? In particular, I'd like to know which one you are using and if there are any affordable units on the market.
Thanks Wes |

Thanks Wes Yes indeed, Wes. I picked up a Chicago Electric 2.5 Liter Ultrasonic Cleaner from Harbor Freight on sale for $59.99 in one of their sale flyers. This device appears to bubble my BCA bone clean using aqueous 725 cleaner/degreaser solution which is readily available from Bownells and which is relatively people safe for use as a gun cleaner. So clean that I'd worry about flash corrosion if the ultrasonically cleaned metallic surfaces are not protected quickly. To avoid that potential problem, I immediately coat all bubbled parts with Weapon Shield CLP when cleaning and rinsing is complete. Caution is advised when putting ANY volatile cleaning agents in ultrasound devices. The risk is high enough that expensive explosion proof devices are manufactured for cleaning with that kind of chemistry. Michael |

I was hoping to come across one that would be long enough to fit an entire upper reciever in with a 20 inch barrel attached. So I'm guessing it would need to be about 30 inches in length. The one you posted might be perfect of hand guns and smaller components from an AR. Thanks Wes |

Thanks Wes Well Wes, your original inquiry specified "affordable", and in my book that limits the plan to hand guns and little long gun parts. Are you seeking an ultrasonic cleaner for personal use? The size of ultrasonic cleaner you are looking for is going to demand an industrial size budget - big big bucks! Michael |

Some times the folks around here will have a build it yourself method or a source that I wouldn't normally run across. Wes |
